AJO IMPROVEMENT COMPANY

As part of its commitment to developing renewable resources, Ajo Improvement Company (AIC) offers a variety of incentives to help our customers take advantage of the renewable energy resources available in Arizona. AIC continues to meet the Renewable Energy Standard by purchasing over 700 MWH of renewable energy. AIC’s goal remains to create a program that will provide incentives to customers to pursue such resources, which could result in the reduction of energy costs and decrease air pollution.

Incentive payments will provide for a portion of the total system cost and will be an up front one-time payment based on a 20-year agreement with AIC in accordance with the approved Implementation Plan. The incentives are designed to meet a long-term renewable energy goal for 15 percent of our retail energy sales to come from renewable energy resources by the year 2025.

To help customers with the cost of adding renewable energy systems to their homes or businesses, AIC offers the renewable energy incentives that includes support for a wide variety of renewable energy technologies including solar water heaters, solar heating and cooling, as well other technologies such as wind, biomass and biogas cooling.

For additional information on AIC’s renewable energy programs, visit the AIC office at:

Residential Solar Incentive Program Information

AIC offers a variety of Up-Front Incentives (UFI) to residential customers for the purchase and installation of several renewable energy solutions. There are no Production-Based Incentives (PBI) for residential customers.

AIC’s UFIs for residential customers include incentives for technologies such as Solar Water Heating and Solar Space Heating, as well as wind and geothermal.

UFI’s are paid to the customers after the project has been completed and all payment requirements have been met.

Reservation applications are logged in the order in which they are received. Applications will be confirmed (Reserved) progressively until funding is exhausted and the Renewable Energy Standard Tariff (REST) fund is replenished.

Solar Panel/Photovoltaic Systems

With the available sunlight in Ajo, rebates from AIC and available federal and state tax credits, powering your home with the sun is very affordable. Once installed, solar panels turn sunlight into free, non-polluting energy. Your home will remain connected to the AIC grid, so you’ll always have energy anytime you need it. When your system produces more power than you need, the electricity is fed back into the AIC grid and you can be credited for that power.

The equipment must be purchased and installed within 180 days of AIC’s approval of the application.

To apply for an AIC Renewable Energy Incentive, visit the AIC office at South Highway 85, Ajo Arizona or call the AIC Office at (520) 387-2001.

Solar Water Heaters (SWH)

Installing a solar water heater makes financial sense. Heating water for your household can account for up to 15% of your energy bill. With AIC incentives and federal and state tax credits, you can save on the cost of the water heater, leading to a quick payback on your investment.

Terms & Conditions:

UFI of up to $1.20/kWh for first year savings only. (incentive amounts are subject to change based on program participation)

To qualify for AIC incentives, the equipment must be purchased and installed within 180 days of AIC’s approval of the application. AIC Renewable Energy Rebates are subject to change and funding availability. Please contact the AIC office for information on available rebates.

To apply for an AIC Renewable Energy, visit the AIC office at South Highway 85, Ajo Arizona or call the AIC Office at (520) 387-2001.

Solar Space Heating (SSH)

In the cooler weather of Ajo, a solar space heating system can be used to provide heat for your home. Even during the winter months, a solar thermal system can transfer the heat from the sun to your home, keeping it warm while lowering your energy cost.

Terms & Conditions:

UFI of up to $1.20/kWh for first year savings only. Using equipment information provided by your installer, they will convert the estimated BTUs your system will produce during its first year of operation into kWh savings. Those kWh savings are then multiplied by $1.20 per kWh to figure your incentive payment.

To qualify for AIC incentives, the equipment must be purchased and installed within 180 days of AIC’s approval of the application. AIC Renewable Energy Rebates are subject to change and funding availability. Please contact the AIC office for information on available rebates.

To apply for an AIC Renewable Energy Incentive, visit the AIC office at South Highway 85, Ajo Arizona or call the AIC Office at (520) 387-2001.

Other Non-Solar Residential Incentives

AIC offers Residential UFI’s for residential customers who install other non-solar technologies, including wind or geothermal energy solutions. For details on the incentives for other technologies, visit the AIC office at South Highway 85, Ajo Arizona or call the AIC Office at (520) 387-2001.

NON-Residential Solar Incentive Program Information

For Non-Residential customers, AIC offers Up-Front Incentives (UFI).

Depending on the size of your system and the type of technology you install, you can receive renewable energy incentives either as a one-time payment under our Non-Residential UFI Program.

AIC offers non-residential customers incentives for the purchase and installation of several solar solutions. These include Solar Water Heating, Solar Daylighting, Solar Space Cooling, Solar Space Heating, and Solar Pool Heating.

For details on the incentives for these technologies, visit the AIC office at South Highway 85, Ajo Arizona or call the AIC Office at (520) 387- 2001.

Solar Panels – Photovoltaic Systems

Three hundred days of sunshine a year make today’s reliable solar technology ideally suited to AJo’s climate. AIC rebates, along with the federal and state tax incentives, make using clean solar energy to power your business easy and affordable. Plus, powering your business with clean, reliable solar energy demonstrates your organization’s commitment to environmental responsibility and can give it a competitive advantage.

Photovoltaic (PV) panels are typically installed on a business’ rooftop and positioned to maximize exposure to the sun. The panels contain sunlight-absorbing semiconductors that convert sunlight into electrons, which flow as direct current (DC) electricity to an inverter. The inverter then transforms the DC electricity into AC electricity, which can be used to power your business. If your system produces more than you use, the excess flows to the AIC grid and your account is credited. Because your facility remains connected to the power grid, you’ll have electricity at night and on dark, rainy days.

To qualify for AIC incentives, the equipment must be purchased and installed within 180 days of AIC’s approval of the application.

To apply for AIC Renewable Energy, visit the AIC office at South Highway 85, Ajo Arizona or call the AIC Office at (520) 387- 2001.

Solar Daylighting

Solar daylighting is an inexpensive way to utilize the light from the sun to illuminate areas of your facility during the day instead of using artificial lighting that uses electricity. It has the added benefit of reflecting most of the sun’s heat.

Most solar daylighting installs fairly quickly and with no structural change. A solar collector gathers the sun’s light and directs it through a reflective tube on the roof of your facility. A diffuser then spreads the light throughout your interior space.

Solar Water Heaters, Solar Space Heating, Solar Pool Heating and Solar Space Cooling

AIC has not determined the UFI incentive for these types of installations as they will be determined on a case-by-case basis and will include consideration of capital costs, capacity (kW), and estimated annual production (kWh). For more information please contact or visit the AIC office at South Highway 85, Ajo Arizona or call the AIC Office at (520) 387-2001.

Other Non-Solar, Non-Residential Incentives

AIC offers Residential UFIs for customers who install other non-Solar technologies, including Incentive Wind or Geothermal energy solutions. For details on the incentives for other technologies, visit the AIC office at South Highway 85, Ajo Arizona or call the AIC Office at (520) 387-2001.
