Navopache Electric Cooperative (NEC)

NEC provides its members with a variety of incentives for implementing qualifying renewable energy resources at their residences or businesses, within the cooperative’s service territory. NEC incentives are offered to residential and non-residential members on an equal basis.

The incentives are designed to meet the short and long-term renewable energy goals established by the Arizona Corporation Commission. The long-term goal is for 15% of our retail energy sales to come from renewable energy resources by the year 2025. The goal for 2010 is that 2.5% of retail sales be derived from renewable energy resources. Of that percentage, 20% must come from Distributed Renewable Energy Resources – systems which are installed on the member’s premises and are used to offset member load, such as rooftop photovoltaic panels and wind turbines.

To assist its members with the cost of adding renewable energy systems to their homes and businesses, NEC has developed its ACC approved Renewable Energy Incentive Program (REIP). The program provides monetary support for a variety of renewable energy technologies such as photovoltaic systems, solar water heating, solar heating and cooling, and wind turbines. Funding for the REIP by NEC is collected through the ACC approved environmental portfolio surcharge.

In addition to the REIP which assists individual members with renewable energy development, NEC has installed and operates grid connected photovoltaic systems at two NEC distribution substations. The NEC systems blend photovoltaic generation with traditional resources to serve member load requirements on a circuit-wide basis.

Residential Solar Incentive Program Information

The NEC REIP provides funding to assist members who install qualifying photovoltaic systems or solar water heating systems at their homes. The REIP provides for an upfront incentive payment, upon inspection and acceptance of a system by NEC, and provides an on-going credit for energy imported to the NEC power system through an ACC approved Net Metering Tariff. For solar water heating systems, NEC offers an upfront incentive payment based on the avoided traditional energy requirement for the first year of operation of the member’s system.

Interconnected Photovoltaic Systems

NEC will provide an upfront incentive of $3.00 / watt (installed nameplate capacity) up to a maximum of 50% of the installed cost. The maximum upfront incentive for an interconnected photovoltaic system is $25,000 per member. NEC renewable energy rebates are subject to change and funding availability. Visit www.navopache.org under “Forms” then “Renewable Energy” for more information.

Off-Grid Photovoltaic Systems

NEC will provide an upfront incentive of $1.50 / watt (installed nameplate capacity) up to a maximum of 50% of the installed cost. The maximum upfront incentive for an off-grid photovoltaic system within the NEC service territory is $12,500. NEC renewable energy rebates are subject to change and funding availability. Visit www.navopache.org under “Forms” then “Renewable Energy” for more information.

Solar Water Heating Systems

NEC will provide an upfront incentive of $0.75 / kWh of the estimated energy saved during the system’s first year of operation to conform to OG-300 ratings of the Solar Rating and Certification Corporation. Visit www.navopache.org under “Forms” then “Renewable Energy” for more information.

Other Non-Solar Residential Incentives: Interconnected Wind Turbines

NEC will provide an upfront incentive of $3.00 / watt (installed nameplate capacity) up to a maximum of 50% of the installed cost. The maximum upfront incentive for an interconnected wind turbine system is $25,000 per member. NEC renewable energy rebates are subject to change and funding availability. Visit www.navopache.org under “Forms” then “Renewable Energy” for more information.
